Fun Monday - My House and the Roads It Is On

This week, Kitten is our hostess. She would like to know the history of our house and the street we live on. My house doesn't have a whole lot of history. The best thing, the very best thing, about my house is that it's paid for. Whoo hoo!

We actually live in a part of this great country that is still implementing the 9-1-1 emergency response system. We lived for 17 years, almost to the day, in a field behind the company we worked for. There was no street address. My voter registration card actually read “US Hwy ** between FM **** and Progressive Rd”. It didn’t fit real well on the little line.

This last May we moved our house. No, we didn’t move into a new house. We moved our house. We now live on a real named Road with a real house number. I can actually have UPS and FedEx shipped to my house. I am so excited.

Here are some pictures of the move itself.

It was like being a TURTLE!!!! (:

I've always wondered what it would be like to pick up your house and move.

Congratulations on your ADDRESS!!

Yay. An address is always good. How cool that you can just up and move your house. Does that mean you can move it again if you feel like a change?

Fortunately I have seen once a house moving when I was visiting my aunt in the States, otherwise I would have fallen off my chair ! I have never seen this here in Belgium ! or elsewhere in Europe. Congratulations to your house n°, lol !

Hey, you're like a hermit crab - just carry your house with you. How neat! So when are you moving it down here? ;)

That looks like a very long house to move in one piece, they often cut then in half to move them here, mainly so they're not to wide though.

I said this in another FM post today, but I am always fascinated by "moving a house" stories. The pictures just made it even more fun!

did you have to worry about power lines?

I can't imagine not having an address - wow. Glad you have one now!

(oh - and I don't get pizza delivery where I live, but FedEx and UPS are more than welcome!)

Wow...that is amazing! I am always intrigued when they move these suckers. So many of them have to be split in half to be moved down our tiny Arkansas highways. Congrats on an address!

i would have looooved the idea of just moving the house when we moved three years ago! would have saved on a lot of packing/unpacking aggravation (and possibly would have eliminated the boxes that still fill our garage!)

congrats on having an address!

I grew up in a small, rural county where it was very common to see someone towing their houses to their new place. I always thought it was kind of cool . . . but since I live in tornado alley, it also was kinda scary.

Great pictures. I'd never be organized enough on a moving day to have the camera out.

It is great when you can finally get UPS and deliveries. I can see how it would be exciting to get a real address and especially to feel settled.

I can't imagine not having an address. Although if UPS and Fed Ex can't deliver to you, does that mean credit card companies can't find it either? In that case, it might be kind of nice.

That is amazing~ how lovely to have pictures of actually moving your home, lock stock and barrel! We rarely see anything like this in the UK.

Too cool. Great post.

We also have had a problem for years with our road name. It didn't have one but several. The utility company called it E. Stallard Rd. and it was also a Route with a box # and it is now a County Road with numbers on both sides of that. 911 changed things.

I don't know how I would make it if I didn't have Stan able to deliver from his big brown truck. Oh my!

I totally agree I'd rather move a house than pack one up!! :)

Congrats on having an actual address!!

LOL! When she said I want to know about your house and the road it is on, I'm not sure this is exactly what she meant. But you certainly followed the instructions to the letter!

Wow!! I'm always fascinated by people actually moving their houses...it seems both a far out and sensible idea at the same time!!

Hence the name mobile! ;-)
Did you get to leave all your stuff in place? That would make my day.
