Boredom

I got into a conversation the other day about boredom. I know that boredom existed when I was a child because I remember saying that I was bored. I also remember painting pickets, dusting furniture legs, and chopping firewood - all my parents' remedies for my boredom.

I know people who, while needing money, will turn down a job - a good, honest job - because it is "boring".

I know children in school who consistently get into trouble because they are "bored". This child's parents think it is the school's responsibility to make sure their child is not bored. I think it is the child's responsibility to learn to sit still and listen. This child is bright - so bright - but I am afraid that if the adults in his world constantly shape the world to suit him, he will have even more difficulties when he gets older.

This child is not independantly wealthy and will have to work. I know of very few jobs whose sole function is to keep the employee entertained.

I am concerned (but not bored).

Jimmy
(originally posted 12/15/06)

I spent a great deal of time trying to decide what to call this blog. This has been a very stressful week, just not for me. It has been stressful, though, for a great many people that I care about and I just feel so danged helpless.

Wednesday evening a friend of mine died. It was not expected and, unlike some people I have known who were ill for a long time, it was not welcome. It's kind of ironic because my friend was ill and we sort of expected him to die early - you know, before all the rest of us do. We just expected it to be his disease that killed him and not a horrific traffic accident.

It is my nature to find bright spots. Sometimes I find this comforting and sometimes I find it incredibly annoying. Any way you cut it, though, it's what I do.

Sooooo- it was a single vehicle accident and no one else was injured - bright spot.

His widow has faith that is truly strong and deep, along with a church family who will be with her every step of the way - bright spot.

He evidently was either dead when his vehicle hit the tree or death was instantaneous - bright spot.

We all have wonderful memories, a lot of which make us hysterical, by which to remember him - bright spot.

And last, but most certainly not least, he is with God - incredibly luminous glorious and radiant bright spot.

We loved you, Jimmy

Power of Prayer

I generally don't talk (or write) about God, prayer, Catholicism, etc., because I try to avoid sounding like a "God freak". But - you just knew there was a 'but', didn't you? - this past Saturday evening reminded me about the power of prayer and the awesome power of God.

I was working extra duty as a guard at the plant where I am secretary during the day. The guard shack is roughly an 8 foot cube, built of cinder block, with 7x5 foot windows on 3 sides. There was a storm Saturday evening, the kind the weathercasters refer to as "SEVERE WEATHER". The storms were gathering, golf ball size hail was falling, the winds were swirling, and the tumbleweeds were stampeding across the drive. I was safe inside along with our yard dog, a year-old stray that some lowlife abandoned out here. Her name is Bug.

Anyway, Bug and I were safe and warm. I was watching the clouds and notice the little hangy-down thingy that always scares me. This one was hanging down from a wall cloud and had a lovely little hook in itand was a pretty big hangy-down thingy.

Normally, when I am scared, I go into auto-pilot and start saying the rosary. This time, I appealed directly to my guardian angel and all the angels in heaven to shield me and to St. Francis to protect the dog. As I was praying, I could watch the hangy down thingy just get sucked right back up into the cloud.
I changed my prayers to those of thanksgiving and Bug and I finished out our shift.
God is good.

I wish I could take credit for this, but I read it in the "quote of the day" on my home page......

"The quickest way to a man's heart really is through his stomach, because then you don't have to chop through that pesky rib cage." - J. Jacques

I love my husband immensely and think very fondly of other men I have known but that statement just cracks me up.

Here we go again!

I know that I have started a blog before but - I LOST IT! I am not sure how this happened but I think it could be inattention. My daughter says that it is a common problem with me. I would argue with her but I think she might be right. Just don't tell her I said so.

Anyway - to explain the title of this blog - it is just going to be the "meanderings" of "my" '"mind" - henceforth "Myanderings". Now when they ask me in court to address the jury in my own words, I actually have one.

Have a blessed rest of your week and know that you are loved - not necessarily by me - but you are loved.
