Fun Monday - My House and the Roads It Is On

This week, Kitten is our hostess. She would like to know the history of our house and the street we live on. My house doesn't have a whole lot of history. The best thing, the very best thing, about my house is that it's paid for. Whoo hoo!

We actually live in a part of this great country that is still implementing the 9-1-1 emergency response system. We lived for 17 years, almost to the day, in a field behind the company we worked for. There was no street address. My voter registration card actually read “US Hwy ** between FM **** and Progressive Rd”. It didn’t fit real well on the little line.

This last May we moved our house. No, we didn’t move into a new house. We moved our house. We now live on a real named Road with a real house number. I can actually have UPS and FedEx shipped to my house. I am so excited.

Here are some pictures of the move itself.

More on the move

The house is moved. Nothing - I repeat, nothing - got broken or even bent. OK, so there was the time the next day when the blocks under the tongue cracked and we had to get the loader and lift the house and put REALLY big pieces of wood under the tongue until the set up guys could get there.

The dogs are ecstatic. They have a fenced in yard with grass (that's certainly new in their lives) and a swimming pool - the a/c is not yet hooked up.
I have pictures of my daughter doing manual labor - she works very hard a lot of the time - we just never get any pictures of her going it....until now! Proof that she will work for steak.

So, on Monday Julie and I decided we should go to the big town (Amarillo) and have some Pei Wei http://www.peiwei.com/ and just relax a little. We did and the food was wonderful. We decided to stop and look at some oak trees on the way home. Julie's little man had planted a red oak last year when he was here. It was just a little stick tree and the neighbor's goats ate it. His Grampits wanted to plant a red oak and just sort of not mention that it was a different tree - you know how Grampits' are.

Anyway, we went to Lowe's and looked at the trees. They had 2 - count them, 2 - red oaks left so of course we HAD to buy one. Now, we live in the country and we do have pickup trucks. Did we drive one to town. Of course not.
The tree - a 15 foot oak - will, in fact, fit in the back seat of a Lincoln Town Car.

We did not pass any bicyclists in the 50 miles we drove home - drat the luck!

When last I wrote regarding the move, it was last Tuesday and the move was scheduled for Friday. It did not happen Friday. It did happen yesterday!

We crossed one state highway and 4 sets of railroad tracks.

Then we (that would be the royal we- thank you, Jason) made 3 right turns, including one into a driveway and then he BACKED IT into the yard!

I opened the door cautiously - after everyone left - and not one thing moved or fell or was broken! God loves me and I love Him!

Thanks to everyone involved especially Jason (Moose), Wade, Clay (Ed) and Jason (Bubbles) and a huge thanks to Jacky and Johnnie.

The great migration

Long story short, 1 and 1/2 years ago, my husband came home and said, "Honey, let's move the house." Why I didn't leave him then I couldn't tell you. Sooooooooo...

...this week, on Monday, he moved the first of the two 10x16 storage buildings we own preparatory to moving the house on Friday (that would be tomorrow). I have class after work on Monday, so did not get to see the move.

Tuesday morning, on my way to work, I decided to stop by the new place to take a picture of the storage shed - our first "footprint" on the new place. I was talking to my daughter on the phone and wondering where exactly her Dad put it. I couldn't see it. Finally, I saw it.

It rained Monday night but I really did not think the winds were THAT strong. I was evidently incorrect. The building was lifted over the fence and dropped in our friend's pasture, missing all the livestock, thank goodness.

So, the floor will now become the front porch when we move the house. The siding will become, when placed on top of 4x4s on the back fence line. shade for the horses (pasture side) and shade for the dogs (back yard side).

The new storage building will be delivered in approximately 2 weeks and will be SECURELY anchored. I'll let you know how moving the house goes...
