Fun Monday! Don't leave home without it!

Today’s Fun Monday hostess is the very lovely and candid Karina. Karina wants to see our security blanket. She wants to know just what it is that we can’t leave home without.

I always carry a purse. It contains the usual junk – a wallet, 2 checkbooks, a nail file, 3 sets of keys, 2 phones, old receipts, numerous pens, none of which I can find when I need to write something, letters, stamps, rosary beads, and often a paperback book.

I work in an office but a lot of my work is done outside. I am in and out for the better part of the day. I leave my purse either in my office or locked in my car. I carry the absolute necessities in my pants pockets. My, how feminine that sounds!

Anyway, my left rear pocket is empty. My right rear pocket has money in it. My right front pocket has 2 sets of keys (1 for the office building and 1 for the exterior padlocks on the fences). My left front pocket has these:
They are sacrifice beads. I received them when I started the
It’s a Catholic scripture study which, if done properly, results not only in a closer relationship with God, but in weight loss. It’s like the popular “Weigh Down” program but with a Catholic bent. Hence the beads. There should be a crucifix at the end opposite the St. Therese medal but my beads need a little serious reconstruction.

These beads were first made popular by St. Therese of Lisieux (the Little Flower). St. Therese believed that there is no act that is small if it is offered to God and joined with the sacrifice of our Lord. Before she made her First Communion, her older sister gave her beads such as these so that she could keep track of all of her little sacrifices.

It is not really scorekeeping; it just brings me to a greater awareness of and union with God. These beads, which, since there are ten of them, can also double as a rosary in a pinch, are what I always have with me.

They are my touchstone during a busy day and a reminder of who I truly am.

am I first?
everyone needs a touchstone.
Everyone needs to clean out their purse once in a while, too.

Sounds like you would've done great with Monty on Let's Make a Deal! And, good for you using St. Therese to help you lose weight. She's always great for virtually everything!

Thank you for the explanation of the beads and the Light Weigh program. I have learned something new with your Fun Monday post. Have you lost weight with this method? (Not that is the most important part)

That is very cool about the beads. A touchstone is a wonderful thing to have. Have a grweat Monday!

I have heard of Light Weigh before (although I didn't know that was the proper name for it).

I like that you have a touchstone. I also tuck things in my pockets and leave my purse and such in the car. I can easily go to the car to grab whatever. :)

Pamela - Yep, you were first! and I only clean out my purse when I buy a new one. I am terrible.

AFF- I need all the help I can get. I just forgot for a while where to find it.

mjd - it is a great program. 48 pounds so far (in a little less than 20 months). The overachiever in our group has lost 70 and some of our ladies have not lost at all. It is still an awesome way to learn more about our Church.

serina, beckie, anni - glad that you learned something new. I thought long and hard about "preaching" today but it is who I am.

laurie - yep, two phones. One is personal and one is the company phone.

twidge - just read your post, hon. Good job!

I love touchstones. It's so nice during the day to have that jolt back to what is important to you.

I've scrolled down and read your blog. I'd be in serious trouble if that cafe menu was within five miles of me.

Happy Fun Monday!

Hank the cow dog?!! My oldest has the first 8 books...sad that he didn't get into them. I still have 2 more boys I hope they like 'em!

huh those weight loss beads are kinda interesting. When my dad remarried I was raised catholic for 9 years...I actually stopped going to CCD when it was time for conformation...I was never baptized thus making me ineligible to be confirmed.
I think it is great they have worked for you!

Oh, excuse me. Was my hand in you right rear pocket? My however did that get there? :-)

How cool are those beads...truly neat!! My husband carries a buckeye in his pocket, along with two stones that serve a similar purpose. You have a great thing, there!

Your post was interesting, Sandy. I learned something (love that:) ).

Your purse contents sounds much the same as mine; in my case, I don't NEED everything that's in it, so I guess that's another way of saying I need to clean it :/.

I really don't have that much in it, but my car? Another story :/.

Sounds like you organize a bit like me. I have a lot of paperwork with me also. I actually got another purse today so I am going to do an organize my purse/life post on Wednesday. I don't know much about Rosary beads and such, but I think that a bead system is a good way to keep aware of different things and having your bead chain in your pocket is a good way to be conscious of it.

i stopped carrying a checkbook several years ago, since i so very rarely write checks anymore. just credit cards and some cash.

thanks for sharing the information about the beads. not being Catholic, i'm not very familiar with the concept but i loved your statement that "it is not really scorekeeping; it just brings me to a greater awareness of and union with God"!

My Drs have told me to stop the Dew, but haven't found anything I like enough to replace with. LOL! I love the idea of Light Weigh. That sounds great.!

Wow, I never heard of those beads! See? This is why I love my blogger friends.

Just an FYI, I'm tagging you to post 7 random things about yourself in a blog post. Check out mine to see what I mean. Then, you've got to pass it on and tag 7 other people to do the same. Have fun with it! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

I love that you carry your beads in your pockets along with the other "necessaries". I need to get something like that too - some serious grounding is occasionally needed here!
