This week's Fun Monday is hosted by my daughter, Julie, at Ooh, A Shiny Pen! This is her request:
Music plays a vital role in most of our lives. It is everywhere. I want to hear the ONE song that is you. The song that whenever it is heard, you smile. I am not looking for the soundtrack of your life, just that one song. Your friends hear it and think of you. You can post the video, the lyrics, the wav file. However you want to post it is great.
So here it is. Please note in the chorus, where it references "stoned rock and rollers", stoned also used to mean drunk. And I was.
80's Ladies: Words and Music by K.T. Oslin
We were three little girls from school.
One was pretty, one was smart
And one was a borderline fool.
Well she's still good lookin'
That woman hadn't slipped a bit.
The smart one used her head
She made her fortune.
And me, I cross the border every chance I get.
We were the girls of the 50's.
Stoned rock and rollers in the 60's.
And more than our names got changed
As the 70's slipped on by.
Now we're 80's ladies.
There ain't been much these ladies ain't tried.
We've been educated.
We got liberated.
And had complicating matters with men.
Oh, we've said "I do"
And we've signed "I don't"
And we've sworn we'd never do that again.
Oh, we burned our bras,
And we burned our dinners
And we burned our candles at both ends.
And we've had some children
Who look just like the way we did back then.
Oh, but we're all grown up now.
All grown up,
But none of us could tell you quite how.
We were the girls of the 50's.
Stoned rock and rollers in the 60's.
Honey, more than our names got changed,
As the 70's slipped on by.
Now we're 80's ladies.
There ain't been much these ladies ain't tried.
A- my name is Alice.
I'm gonna marry Artie.
We're gonna sell apples
And live in Arkansas.

I love that song! And I can't believe I got to leave your first comment!
I've never heard that song before. It's wonderful!
ooh , this is one of my absolute favorites!!
I am not familiar with your interesting song, but being a 50's girl, I can identify with these lyrics.
Are you sure stoned rock and rollers in the 60's were drunk?
PS
I like your Fun Monday sticker.
I never heard of that one either. So which of the three was underground? Obviously the fool was still around...
I liked this one!
OMG, beautiful...love it! Thank you! Happy FM!
This song is my #1 on my playlist on my computer. I love it. Great pick and it fits. Thanks for playing.
I hadn't heard this one either. I like it, though.
I don't think I've heard that song before, interesting. I remember stoned meaning drunk. Do you know the new word for drunk? Crunk = crazy drunk, had to learn it from a 17 yr old.
Born in the 50's I was and lived through all this fun for sure. I survived thankfully I'm alive and well in my 50's. Great choice for a song for this fun Monday!
Interesting clip. Nice lyrics.
So where is K.T. Oslin these days? Didn't she used to always wear gloves? I haven't heard anything from her in years.
I didn't know it had a video. But fun to watch. I forget about the 80s hair. It also reminds me that I need to get all of our videos and pictures organized. - not enough time. NLM
Great song!!
In reply, there are favourites that get replayed often, there are some that get replayed occasionally, and there are others that haven't been replayed for ages.
Gosh that song is good. I remember it. What a touching, romantic song. Love it. Hey, I'm borrowing your Fun Monday cow! :D
I love your fun monday cow!
I have never heard this song but I am all about the 80's.
Great song. Have never heard it before. This is a great Fun Monday.
Sandy,
Could you explain to me how to embed a video into your post? I don't know where to put it. And sometimes when I try to copy and paste words into my post, I get two blue lines outside my post where the words will paste. I don't know how this got started? Do you have any ideas?
That was a new one for me. It went straight to my heart!
Nice pick.
Aww, this used to be one of my fave songs. Through high school there were 3 of us gals who were inseparable, and I had a boyfriend just over in Clovis, so I always stressed the part about crossing the border. ha.
thanks for the memories. and i can't picture you drunk at ALL!
I hadn't heard this song, but I can relate!
thanks-
Patience
Not sure if I remember this one but great choice!
This is a new song for me, but it's great and I can sure see why you like it!
I am hearing some great new songs today and that one is really lovely.
AHH memories..partly the song and partly getting drunk while listening to that song!!!
This is a new one on me but I love it!
Cool! I haven't heard that one in ages!
fun stuff. i was a kid in the 80s so i cant relate other than maybe to my mom, who was probably an 80s lady. most likely drunk in the 60s.. but i think she's more of a lady now in the 00's and she's crossing the 60 mark. now she seems like a lady. she was just cool before..
I don't think I'd ever heard this song before- but I loved it. I had two very close friends as kids, but we grew apart after high school. It kind of reminded me of them and made me sad that we don't keep in touch like we should.
I can picture you in this song. LOL! Great song!
I'd never heard this song before. Mark Wills' "19 Something" kinda has a similar theme but fits me a little better.
Oh I'd never heard that before - totally made me bawl. Great song, thanks for sharing... gotta go find some kleenex now and call my girlfriends...
Hi Sandy! I saw K.T. Oslin just the other day and remembered thinking--glad you're still making music. Good one to represent her generation--and yours. And, from reading your posts, not surprised that she's your choice.
So many songs I've never heard today. Wish I could hook my iPod up to the Fun Monday posts.
All the new music I get to learn! Great choice!
I love reflecting on old memories to a song. This song talks about reflections of days past. Great pick.
Love this.
Great choice
From one 80's lady to another...

I can soooooooooo identify with the lyrics to this. Ages me I know....but what the heck.
That so describes you Sandy!! I love it!
great song Sandy...kind of reminded me of me also!!
I haven't heard that song in forever! Thanks for some great memories!
I've never heard that song! I like it! What a great song!
Oh, I like it! Haven't heard that one is a very long time. That's one I'll have to add to my MP3 player.
I've never heard that song before, or the artist, but it was a great song.
I've added the song clip to my blog entry, so if you'd like to hear Selling My Pork Chops, please re-visit.
Here's my Fun Monday
Cool song, thanks for sharing.
I've always loved this song. And that video is so perfect for it. Makes me miss my bestest friend even more.
