Fun Monday - Christmas Most Recently Past

Sayre is hosting this week and she wanted to know two things -

What was the most touching, wonderful part of Christmas for you this year?

AND
What was the craziest, stupidest, funniest part this year?

The most touching and wonderful part was opening the gifts and seeing my grandson get EVERYTHING on his list (short list, folks, don't get real excited). He was really happy to get his football and also to see his mom after she got off work.

The craziest, stupidest, funniest part? I work in retail so there are more instances than I can list. One that stands out though is the little girl, probably about 5 years old, throwing a full-out, on the floor, screaming temper tantrum because her Dad wouldn't buy her a toy. I tried to smooth things over by pointing out that if her Dad bought her everything she wanted, it would make Santa's job awfully hard. She countered by telling me that if her Dad would buy her everything she wanted, it would make Santa's job easier because he wouldn't have to bring her anything. Yep, a future lawyer in the making, I think.

It's lovely to get everything you wanted, but that little girl really has the WRONG idea of how to go about it (and your grandson knows how to do it right!).

I wonder how she'd feel waking up on Christmas morning with NOTHING in her stocking and NOTHING under the tree because she already got everything?

Oh my...those poor parents certainly have their hands full!

Grandchildren are one of the best blessings of a grandma's existence. Yours seem to be wise each in their own fashion.

Sounds as if your family had a great Christmas. I also work retail, for 18 years, now part-time. Oh, the stories we could share.

I don't have your long suffering. I would have told her she was getting coal in her stocking (most kids don't know what coal is, thought)

Having only a four-legged child, I can't comment too harshly about the five year old meltdown, but am sorry to see a small child that knows how to be so manipulative. At Christmas dinner some friends and I were just talking about how none of us had ever worked in retail and how bad we'd be at it. None of us would have known how to handle the five year old like you did Sandy.

All the best to you and yours in '09.
