Cornbread and Black-eyed Peas

Shorty and I just finished our black-eyed peas and cornbread as is befitting on New Year's Day. We have been married for 22 years and for 22 years, I have made peas and cornbread on New Year's Day.

Earlier this week, I ran across this recipe at the Homesick Texan's blog. Oh My God! This is darn near a religious experience.

I love black-eyed peas, even when they taste like dirt and y'all know what I mean. These are so abso-posi-lutely, deliriously delicious I cannot even begin to tell you.

Try these, please!

Are you talking about that recipe for Good Fortune Soup?

We just finished up our black-eyed peas and cornbread, too, and I looooooove this meal!!! I made some yummy butter cinnamon rolls for dessert so we're all fat and happy now.

Meg - yep, the Good Fortune Soup is really just black eyed peas with rotel and pork and onions and oh, my gosh, it was GOOD!

Glad to know someone else think they taste like dirt...but I love them. In fact, I've eaten enough of them today, I could blow myself home to Colorado.

You know? I hate beans & peas, nor do I like cornbread....I know. Not a real Texan, right? I remember hating New Year's cause I HAD to eat them. Funny how today I was thinking, "I love being an adult and not having to eat black eyed peas!!" You can eat mine, Sandy!

(sigh) My hubby detests black-eyed peas, so I don't think I'll be able to make these. He even hates the smell of them while they're cooking. Oh, well.

Have a happy, healthy, blessed 2008!

Geez, I saw some at the store last night, and I didn't even pick any up. It sounds so good now that I'm not in a frazzled hurry. Shame on me!

And thanks for visiting my blog.

Crazy how many people haven't eaten black eyed peas. What do they have with their chicken fried steak and mashed taters? ;)

Clay and Gavin didn't make it till midnight...but almost! They fell asleep around 11:30. Laken made it, and toasted the new year with a fancy champagne glass filled with sparkling grape juice!

I HATE black-eyed peas.

I had to choke down a spoonful yesterday though.

I held my nose the whole time.

Happy new year to you too! My favorite way to eat black-eyed peas? Texas caviar, MMMMMM....

And as far as your comment on my blog, yup, I've been printing out all the monthly letters as well as any other post tagged Little Man and will one day bound them professionally for him. I've never kept a baby book for him, this is my baby book. Well, that and the three-volume "My first year" scrapbooking albums I've done for him. I've got a wee bit of an addiction...
