Fun Monday - Que pasa?

Today's hostess is the lovely Sayre, who, bless her heart, is actually hosting for the entire month of September. Today's topic is learning. What new thing would you like to learn?

I was discussing this with my husband and there are a LOT of things that I would like to learn. Quilting, welding, cabinet-making, oil painting, caligraphy and last but certainly not least - Spanish.

When I was in high school, many, many moons ago, French was still the international language. French is what was spoken at the U.N., where I aspired to be a translator. Also, I had 8 years of French in grade school so when I did go to high school, it just seemed natural to continue.

Fast forward a bunch of years. I live in Texas. French? I don't use much French. I will be the first to tell you, however, that it has come in very handy as far as the etymology of words is concerned. Spanish is not all that far from French. Also, while I did not take Latin as Sayre did, I was raised Catholic in the olden days when it was all in Latin. Some of it stuck.

Every year I toy with the idea of taking Spanish at our local college. This may be the year.

Hi Sandy
Glad you put this link on FB I had every intention of re-joining FM but so far things haven't worked out.

If I had done a post it would say-I would certainly like to learn more about photography and and painting!

I love learning languages. I've had an online friend living in Denmark who has taught me a lot of Danish words, and yep....me too, Church in Latin. Been there done that in my youth. Spanish is easy...I never took the language but I have two sisters-in-law who are of that descent so it's easy for me to understand, read and speak. I also too French in high school. Hope you get to take some classes.

My Macro Monday

Have a glorious day. And, thanks for visiting.

I think Spanish may be my next language. Living in Florida (and having Puerto Rican relatives), it makes sense. My boy wants to learn it too, so perhaps we can do it together.

You go, Sandy! Living where you do, learning Spanish makes A LOT of sense!

Spanish is fun to learn that's what I found when I did a short course. Learnt enough to 'get by' and to read the menu.
I too had to do Latin at school and it does help sometimes in figuring out words and meanings.

Spanish makes sense for you Sandy! Latin is a very complicated language...I remember those really, really long masses!

Seems a few of us have learning languages on the agenda. I'm also thinking of (re)learning Spanish!

Espanol...(I don't have a key with that little wavy thing ~ to go over the n) Do you have that little key or do you know how to put it there with HTML...?
Well, I just named two things I want to learn: Spanish and HTML.
I AM taking Spanish lessons and loving them. Had two years in high school, but didn't retain much. About the only thing I retain these days is water.
Speaking of water, I'm thirsty.
Have a great week.

My friend Ann lives in a neighborhood where there's a lot of Spanish speaking workers and their families living. She says she needs to learn Spanish so she can ask "Have you seen my cat?" She has this one old cat who constantly goes AWOL and she has to walk the neighborhood to find him!

took 3 quarters of "old people" spanish a few years ago. I enjoyed it
Still can't speak it

Can pick out a few words
CAN PRONOUNCE IT!

In fact, I read a spanish story as a teachers aide last year in a Spanish Kindergarten class. I didn't know what I read... but darn it, the kids did!

I love the fact that FM is still happening. I almost forgot we ever did that. Those were the good ol' days! I might have to pop in again for old times sake! :)
