Better Living Through Chemicals

I have had several people ask me questions about parvo. Here is a link that I found helpful when Julie's pups (OK, they were actually Roxi's pups) got ill.

In a nutshell, parvo is a virus that can live in the ground. It can be destroyed by spraying the yard with a diluted bleach solution. You can be assured that any yard we ever have our dogs in will be treated first.

The adult dogs (Roxi, Bo, and Bug) did not get parvo because they are all fully vaccinated. The pups were too young to have had their first shots when they got sick.

I have several friends who are anti-vaccines and do not think chemicals should be introduced into a dog's system. I have always had my dogs fully vaccinated since we travelled so much. I had thought about cutting back on the number of things I have them vaccinated for but now? Yeah, I think our new mantra is "Better Living Through Chemicals".

the question about vaccines is a good one. very controversial. we vaccinate the guys, but we try to do it every other year now instead of every year.

We almost lost the Breezy Bear to bronchial pneumonia @6 months even though she had gotten the kennel cough vaccine about 3 weeks before. Since we take them so many different places to run and play, we will vaccinate as often as our beloved vet recommends!

I vaccinate, and if more people did in general (not just pets) we'd all be better off.

I'm in agreement.

Vaccinate vaccinate vaccinate.....I hope never to go through such a loss agian. It was incredibly heart breaking to watch them waste away slowly, unable to just put them down since they could have possibly made it. Parvo takes them to death's door step VERY quickly, but they can turn the corner just as quickly....God bless them all and RIBBIT

How very heartbreaking! And thanks for the info, I had no idea parvo was something found in the ground!

I'm a big believer of having my pets vaccinated, as well as spayed/neutered, which protects them from many types of cancers.

I didn't know that about parvo. We always had our dogs fully vaccinated, so there's a lot that we just haven't had to worry about. I believe in vaccinations. Rabies is fairly common around here so if there was only ONE shot to get, that would be the one.

I'd never even heard about parvo before. Good information. I'm for vacination 100%. We even have to get our little one a shot every year for rattlesnake bite.
