Wanna Make God Laugh? Fun Monday

There is an old joke: Do you want to make God laugh? Just tell Him your plans.

OK. Irish Coffeehouse wants to know our career dreams - what we planned to be when we grew up and what we would do now if retraining were no issue.

Growing up, I wanted to be a mom. I wanted the white picket fence, the hubby who went to work, and the kids who adored me. I started on this dream, to the detriment of my college education, when I was 18 and still knew it all. I married, had a child 1 year and 1 week later, and was widowed 4 months after that. Yeah, so much for plan A.

Fast forward a lifetime. I am currently married to a man who adores me and I him. We have children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. We have cyclone fencing instead of pickets and I work outside my home, as does he.

What would I do if I could? I have no clue. I gave up making plans decades ago and my frustration level dropped immediately.

So now, go and have fun and read all the dreamers' posts. I'm gonna go sit in my yard with my sweetheart, watch my grandson ride his bike and pet my dogs.

I can't imagine what it must have been like to be widowed so young. :(

You are too right about making plans. Even dinner plans don't always work out. I suppose that's part of the reason that my "career" has been so free-form. I never think "What's the next step?" It's more like "What am I going to do today?"

Too sad being a widow...but still, it seems your life made a big turn-around for the better!

Hope you can stop by sometime today for a visit, my Fun Monday is posted.

Sitting in your yard with your family and pets sounds like a dang good day to me.

You decided your life with no regrets and no looking back. This is commendable.

I think you got a new set of plans. Being uprooted and still loving life, right?

Sounds like you've got a wonderful attitude for dealing with what life throws at you. Enjoy your day outside!

I think making no plans sounds like a good idea. I'll have to try it! ;0)

Your young lesson was the hardest to face, the starting over. But it appears that you're totally in the place where you want--and need--to be. Good luck. I admire your slant on the whole planning thing.

I would love to write. Instead I've been involved in other peoples finances my whole working career.

So, let's go have coffee and laugh about this???

Although I didn't say in my post, my dream was getting married, having children and living in a thatched cottage with roses over the doorway!

I remember reading about you being widowed young, but like Alison, I don't think I realised you were still in your teens at the time!

I should take a leaf out of your book and stop making plans you don't get so disappointed that way~ and maybe my blood pressure would lower!

You have both a beautiful new masthead and Fun Monday stamp. When I was young, I wanted a white house with green shutters surrounded by a white picket fence. You may be right about making plans and frustration. When making decisions, I never seem to make up my mind anyway. Take care.

It is funny. We make our plans and take them seriously, but then GOD says NOPE. This is what I want you to do. :)
