Fun Monday - Celebrity Crush

Jo Beaufoix would like to know about our first celebrity crush.

I was 5 years old and in kindergarten. We did not have TV yet but we did have radio. My dad, a huge SF Giants fan, always had the AM tuned in to KNBR Radio, home of the Giants.

There was a game on. We (my dad, my mom, my brother and I) were outside working in the garden and listening to the game. It was a very exciting game. I remember that.

I remember #24, the "say hey kid", knocking one out of the park. I remember telling my mom and dad that when I grew up, I was going to marry him. I remember my mom and dad laughing hysterically, although they would not tell me why.

It wasn't until years later - yes, I did grow up in an ivory tower - that I learned that Willie Mays was, and is, black. Trust me. Back in 1959, that would have made a huge difference - that and the 23 year age difference. Oh, well.

Isn't it neat how when we are little, we don't see color? But the age difference!

I have memories of those baseball legends, too. Those were men. Now days you don't know if they're real or chemically enhanced.

How sweet! To think, the rest of us (so far at least) chose the looks, the voice, the eyes... at such a young age you already knew what it took many of us many more years to realize... It's not necessarily how you look, but what you do that makes a difference!

Heehee. He was very cute though. And it's so good how times have mostly changed isn't it. Thanks for playing and have a fabulous day. :D

He was a good ball player. I have and still love baseball!!
Great post! I'm so glad you wrote this. We should be more like little kids and see color, gender or age, Just that we all are humans living in the same world.

First of all, love your Fun Monday logo...or whatever it's called. Too creative !
The post gave me goosey bumps. What a wonderful story and powerful message for EVERYONE. If only our eyes were like radios when it came to skin color.
This is a perfect post as far as I'm concerned...along with Pamela's about Dogs Go to Heaven.
I must figure out how to nominate these two. What are the rules, anyway?

Guess you like older men eh?

Well, not many little girls would think of having crushes on baseball players!

I didn't participate in FM this week...but I decided to share my first crush with you.

I was eight years old. And it was Donny Osmond. Around the time when Puppy Love was a hit.

Oh. And i slept with the LP under my pillow.

I know. I know. lyao;)

Ah the great Willie Mays--a true gentleman and brave man! He actually has some Louisville connections. Since you're a baseball fan you may enjoy my celebrity choice--just got it up.

BRAVO Sandy! First on the FM logo!! I'm not a huge sports fan, but when it comes to the Diamondbacks I love baseball!!

And your post really touched me. I know we say kids say the most darndest things, but sometimes it the innocence that they bring to this world, that sometimes make me think, they can see things we don't.
