What Happened in my Life while I was busy on FB

So much has changed in my life in the last 6 months and I realize that I have been remiss in updates. I have been much too busy feeding the hungry, farming, and playing games over on Facebook. I always knew that I have an addictive personality. I just didn't realize HOW addictive.

My husband was temporarily laid off in November, which put sort of a crimp into our holiday plans, as did Goose's injury. Shorty is still not working and it looks like it may become a retirement instead of a lay-off. Goose is doing all right although she now has a very pronounced limp. She does stay away from the cows now.

I do not even remember if I posted when I passed my state board for Pharmacy Tech. I did! Hurray! I had no idea what a sense of accomplishment this would give me, but it certainly did. Made me believe in myself again, and in my ability to learn new things. So, I have (had) a new career and all was right with the world.

It was very busy at work and, one night, I went home just spent. Physically, emotionally, and mentally spent. I just wanted to quit. And then......

Why Y'all Will Be Seeing More of Me

I should be making more of an appearance on my own blog soon because I am, for Lent, giving up.......gasp, Facebook!

Yep. No more farming or being a restauranteur or even playing scrabble with my friends. I did consider exempting that last one but I have always been an "all or nothing" kind of gal. So, starting Wednesday morning, I will be absent from Facebook until after Easter.

This should allow me more time to spend with the actual people in my life...and with my books and my pets and my housekeeping and, hopefully, with God.

Have a great Lent, friends, and know that I will be here...lol.

Fun Monday/My Favorite Room

Our hostess this week is Janis. She would like to know about our favorite room.

My favorite room is not in my house. My favorite room is now, and has been for years, the reading room at the public library.

I love books.

I cannot afford all of the books, papers, and periodicals that I love. Thank goodness I do not have to. I am blessed to live in a small town with a wonderful library that is part of a consortium of libraries in this area. If we do not have it, our lovely librarians will get it for me.

The chairs are comfy, the temperature is generally warmer than I am keeping my house this winter, and while silence is no longer required, there is a sense of peace and calm.
Thanks for stopping by and see you in the comment section on everyone else's posts.

You ARE God's gift to the world...

Last night, during my religion class, the 5th graders and I were discussing the fact that you are, in fact, God's gift to the world.

God, in His infinite wisdom, arranged history since the beginning of time so that you would be right here, right now. He had your great-greats all the way back fall in love so that your parents would be born so that they, in turn, could have you.

We talked about how, in light of this, we must try and figure out what He intends for us to do here. We must look at our talents and our world and figure out how best to serve Him, here and now.

So, this morning, I was talking about this with my husband and my grandson. My grandson, the Moose, the 4th grader, decided that some people are just here to be the ground troops.

...and may God bless them all.

What do these things have in common?

1. one hand mirror
2. seven different styles of combs
3. one empty gum container
4. one empty plastic glass
5. one set of 3D eyeglasses
6. 5 assorted rocks
7. 3 halves of plastic Easter eggs
(scroll down for answer)

They are all evidently necessary for a 10 year old boy to bathe - and no, I don't even want to know what he was doing.

Fun Monday/Vroom, vroom

This week's hostess is Sayre at Sayre Smiles (which title always makes me smile). Her quest?

I want to know your car history. What was your first car? Which was your favorite car? And what are you driving now - and why?

Let me preface this by saying that I LOVE cars. Specifically, I love fast cars. The first car that I owned was a 1968 Ford Mustang. My husband and I owned it together. We bought it right after our baby was born. It was a very cool, young family car. It was destroyed in a car accident. In case any of you ever wondered which car would win - a Ford Mustang or an Oldsmobile Toronado - it's the Toronado.

My favorite car? That's a toss-up between my mom's 68 Ford Galaxie and my 1980 Chevy Scottsdale 4x4 pickup truck, lovingly nicknamed the "Amok Truck". My mom's Ford was fine-tuned by my cousins and ran the wheels off of most everything I put it up against, not that I ever did.

My pickup? Just fun. I lived in the Mojave desert when I owned it and went 4-wheeling a lot with some really great people. I have fond memories of that pickup. It's what I was driving when Shorty and I started dating. As a matter of fact, the pink slip was in the mail when we got back from our honeymoon. Great pickup and even better times.

My current car? I have two - a surfeit of blessings. My favorite current? A 1999 Mercury Cougar. This car is one of the great under-advertised vehicles of all time. I bought it because I liked how it looked. The first time I drove it through a Panhandle thunderstorm, I loved it. The first time I passed a semi, looked down and saw the speedometer at 130 and she hadn't even breathed hard, I fell in love. She is still a great car. A little the worse for wear but she got a new transmissison a couple of years ago and is still getting over 30 mph on the highway.

My very favorite car? My next car, of course. Moose and I have our sights set on a Lincoln Navigator. I think it's the heated seats.
